HONDURAS UPDATE SEPT 8 2009

By Emile Schepers

Last week, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took a step in the right direction by announcing several new sanctions against the coup regime.

1. A further cutoff of all non-humanitarian aid.
2. A declaration that unless the San Jose accords are accepted by the Micheletti regime, the results of the Nov. 29 Honduran elections will not be recognized.
3. The Millennium Challenge corp will announce this week whether there will be a cutoff of funds.
4. The possibility of revoking U.S. visas of Honduran coup leaders is being studied.

The BBC announced that due to the crisis in Honduras, the amounts of money (remittances) Hondurans living in the U.S. are sending to their relatives in Honduras have been increasing.

I will get you the info on the fate of Millennium Challenge money and the cutt of visas as soon as I have it.

So tune in again tomorrow.
